Winter’s Saga

Winter’s Saga

Wellington Ballet Theatre

Join us this winter as fireside tales of Norse mythology come to life. Blending contemporary dance and physical theatre, Winter’s Saga follows the legendary paths of Loki, Odin and Thor beneath the branches of mighty Yggdrasil. Battles will rage, heroes will rise and fall, and the worlds of gods and mortals will collide in an epic live performance.

Choreographed by Kate Avery, James Burchell, Joana Joy, and Trinity Maydon with support from Sacha Copland
Costume Design by Ella Malcolm
Lighting and Sound Design by Lucas Zaner
Produced by Shereen Capper

Winter's Saga is brought to you by Wellington Community Ballet Theatre - a group of community dancers and performers staging dance theatre productions. The company supports emerging choreographers and freelance artists as well as creating opportunities for the community to dance on stage.

The company premiered its first production, Four Questions at the New Zealand Fringe Festival in March 2026 to near sold-out audiences, receiving a nomination for Most Promising Emerging Company. The audience said:

"What a great show! Loved it!"

"It was really lovely to see people truly enjoying dance. I hope to see more like that."

"I really enjoyed it. I heard it's the first performance of the company, which is really impressive, it was super well put together."

Winter's Saga will be Wellington Community Ballet Theatre's second production.
