Fringe Festival overflowing with innovative works

“Vanessa Stacey is the director of the New Zealand Fringe Festival.

The 35th edition of the New Zealand Fringe Festival opens in Pōneke, Wellington, on February 14 and runs until March 8. This year offers 170+ events, across 40+ venues from the Kāpiti Coast to Island Bay. To make the most of 23 days full of innovation hopefully you’ve spotted the festival programme, featuring a plethora of exceptional events, across multiple genres, as we prepare to welcome artists from around Aotearoa and the world.

Launched at BATS Theatre in 1990, NZ Fringe offers a safe, inclusive, open-access festival for artists to present innovative works, without any curation and at an accessible price for patrons. Much aroha to all of the extraordinary artists the festival has hosted across its 35 years, the passionate festival teams and of course our wonderful audiences, who have supported and helped to launch so many of New Zealand's most loved artist’s careers, both here and internationally.”

Fringe is a large part of our working year at The Hannah, and is a highlight on our calendar. Wellington comes alive during this time, as does The Hannah — often with multiple showings on any given day, and intricate pack-in, pack-out schedules that the team executes with a smile every time.
