Now Hear This

Now Hear This

Hosted by Sameena Zehra. Part of James Nokise’s 2026 election tour.

Sameena Zehra (award-winning comedian, storyteller and director), Raybon Kan (NZ Herald columnist, three-time Test the Nation winner), Mo Munn (Best Newcomer and Spirit of the Festival, NZ International Comedy Festival 2025), Orin Ruaine-Prattley (Best Newcomer, NZ International Comedy Festival 2023 and Winner, Wellington RAW Comedy Quest 2021) and James Nokise (winner of the Fred Award and the Topp Prize).

Some say art shouldn't be political. This show isn't that. A lineup of comedians with short, sharp political takes — Now Hear This offers a night where the audience can enjoy comedy that's specifically, unapologetically political.

Not every comedian is political, but many have hilarious takes on the state of the world. This celebration of speaking truth to power is as much an outlet for the performers as it is for the audience.

A one-off election-season event, hosted by Sameena Zehra (Outstanding Performer NZ Fringe 2017), with a must-watch collection of funny and fired-up comics.

Raybon Kan, three decades in and still filing columns sharper than the news they're about.

Mo Munn, who won Best Newcomer and Spirit of the Festival in the same year, and will sing at you about it.

Orin Ruaine-Prattley, straight off a successful run at the Melbourne comedy festival.

James Nokise, co-creator of Public Service Announcements, currently doing one-off political rants across the country.

Hosted by Sameena Zehra, who has taken solo shows from Edinburgh to Adelaide and turns the personal political without ever raising her voice.

Now hear all five in one room, with Sameena driving the bus, as part of James’ 2026 election tour.

Adult themes, coarse language, and political satire throughout. Recommended 16+.
