Gates to Memory

Gates to Memory

A contemporary dance work that premiered at the Kia Mau Festival 2025. Gates to Memory explores the connection with entities and embodies the messages, wants, and connection with our physical world.

You are invited to witness the intimate act of remembering—of reclaiming lost stories and forging new ones through embodied performance. It is a call to honour those who came before, to hold space for those yet to come, and to respect the ones who will always be.

The strength of this work lies in the unspoken but strongly felt spiritual presence that comes from openness to access messages that are not ours but from ancestors from spirit worlds. To the creators, these messages come in the form of music, movement, and intuition.

Gates to Memory is performed and directed by Caribbean and Brazilian afro-descendant artists Ella Williams and Stela Dara (Show do Café), lighting designer Elekis Poblete, and CreaTech sound designers Kevin Licorish and Jeanelle Frontin . All who wish to connect with their spirituality and the cultural intertwining of traditions and entities.
