Brynne Tasker-Poland on lighting up dance
“Brynne Tasker-Poland is an arts manager, producer, and designer working within the arts industry in Pōneke. She juggles producing her own work and working on the management team of Footnote New Zealand Dance. Her show, Loops, is returning to Wellington’s Hannah Playhouse this month.
Tell us a little about yourself …
My passion is lighting design for dance, though in such a small industry in Aotearoa you have to be a jack of all trades! I moved here 10 years ago from Hawke’s Bay, and studied Arts Management at Toi Whakaari. After graduating I freelanced as a stage manager, technician and lighting designer, before taking up the post of Technical & Facilities Manager at BATS Theatre. Working in the arts industry over the pandemic was incredibly challenging, yet it gave rise to my own company, Company Hiraeth, and my debut show as a director and producer, Loops.”
We love an article that focuses on artists’ practices, and especially when they talk about how they’ve utilised the space at The Hannah. We highly recommend reading this article if you’re a Post subscriber!
