We are pleased to announce the inaugural IDTA Dancers Day, with Masterclasses offering inspiring classes led by Abigail Boyle and Emma Maddock in the fabulous studios at the New Zealand School of Dance. Abigail will encourage students draw out their artistry and expression, while Emma explores creativity and style.

Be inspired; celebrate New Zealand Dance Week; and meet other dancers from around Wellington and out of town. Make a weekend of it and attend other NZ Dance Week events while you are here. The day is specifically planned for students of IDTA teachers, but other students are welcome to participate in the classes.

Masterclass times are:

  • Saturday 27 April, 9.00am - Junior Ballet

  • Saturday 27 April, 10.00 - Intermediate Jazz - Musical Theatre Fusion

  • Saturday 27 April, 11.15am - Junior Jazz - Musical Theatre Fusion

  • Saturday 27 April, 12.15pm - Intermediate Ballet

  • Saturday 27 April, 1.30pm - Senior Jazz - Musical Theatre Fusion

  • Saturday 27 April, 3.00pm - Adult Open Ballet

  • Saturday 27 April, 4.15pm - Senior Ballet

Prices Note: credit card fees may apply.

  • Junior Masterclasses - One class $30.00 per student - both Junior classes for $50.00

  • Intermediate Masterclasses - One class $40.00 per student - both Intermediate classes for $65.00

  • Senior Masterclasses - One class $50.00 per student - both Senior classes for $80.00

  • Adult Open Masterclass - $50.00

  • IDTA Teachers - may watch classes for free. Please show your current membership card at the Registration Desk on arrival, no booking required

  • Teachers who are not IDTA members - $15.00 per class watched

Class levels are based on ages. However, if you are unsure which level to register for, please speak with your teacher. The Jazz-Musical Theatre Masterclasses will be suitable for Modern Jazz; Theatre Craft; and Musical Theatre students.

  • Junior Masterclasses - Suitable for students 8-10 years. Duration 55 minutes

  • Intermediate Masterclasses - Suitable for students aged 11-13 years. Duration 1 hour 10 minutes

  • Senior Masterclasses - Suitable for students aged 14+. Duration 1 hour 25 minutes

  • Adult Open Masterclass - Suitable for adults with some ballet experience and knowledge. Should be able to perform a pirouette and be comfortable linking a range of steps. Duration 1 hour 10 minutes

Venue: The classes will be held in New Zealand School of Dance, Studio 4, at Te Whaea, 11 Hutchison Road, Newtown, Wellington 6021

Abigail Boyle - Ballet Masterclasses

Abigail trained in New Zealand and after 13 years with the Royal New Zealand Ballet, has recently retired. She danced many principal roles, and is now enjoying transitioning into teaching. She has always loved nurturing new talent and encourages anyone who is interested in dancing to develop their own artistry and expression through movement.

Following several years of dance training in Melbourne, Emma worked professionally in the commercial dance arena primarily on music videos, TV and live events before returning home to focus on teaching. Emma tutors contemporary and commercial dance at Te Auaha's campus in Wellington, encouraging students to explore their creativity and style.

The IDTA is a leading dance teaching and examination board based out of Brighton, England. Operating internationally, the IDTA is one of the largest dance teaching organisations in the world and currently has over 7,000 members in 55 countries. Internationally it offers syllabi in over 26 different dance styles.

IDTA New Zealand has dance schools spread right throughout the country. Our qualified teachers provide dance classes in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Theatre Craft, Musical Theatre and Street Dance (Hip Hop). They cater for examinations at all levels and ages, from pre-school through to teacher qualifications and adult students. Many IDTA students go onto successful professional careers within the dancing world.
